Botox® Injections for Facial Lines

Muscles of facial expression can cause frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, "crow's feet", and neck bands. Botox (a purified toxin produced from bacterium clostridium botulinum) works by relaxing, through paralysis, these muscles which wrinkle the brow and other facial areas. Botox has been approved by the Food & Drug Administration for treating blepharospasms (involuntary spasmodic contraction of the eye muscle) and strabismus (crossed eyes), but, although widely used, has not yet been approved for cosmetic purposes.

TECHNIQUE: Simple injection with fine sterile needle.
ONSET OF BENEFIT: Usually 1-3 days, peaks at 7 days.

BENEFIT LASTS: Usually 3-6 months.

AVOID IF: You are either pregnant or nursing, or have a neuromuscular disease. Also avoid taking Botox if you are taking: streptomycin; neomycin (Mycifradin); gentamicin (Garamycin, Genoptic, Gentacidin); tobramycin (Tobrex, Aktob); kanamycin (Kantrex). These drugs interact with Botox, which may produce a potentially adverse drug reaction. NOTE: Please inform your doctor of all the medications you are currently taking.
